Bingin Beach: Beautiful and Changing
Bingin Beach is one of the most beautiful spots on the Bukit Peninsula. White sand meets crystal-clear turquoise water. A world-class surf break peels across the reef. The sunsets are breathtaking.
But the Bingin you'll find today looks very different from photos taken before mid-2025.
What's good right now
The beach is stunning. White sand with the Indian Ocean stretching out in front of you, inviting and clear. Bingin's left-hand barrel—one of the best waves in Bali—is fast, hollow, and challenging, and right now it's less crowded than it used to be. The beach is quieter, more raw. You can hear the waves, feel the breeze, breathe. And when the sun dips into the ocean right in front of you, it's one of those moments that makes you remember why you came to Bali.
What happened
In July 2025, the government demolished all the cliff-side structures at Bingin. Every building. The accommodations, cafes, and warungs that clung to the cliffs for decades—all gone. Even the famous steps down to the beach were destroyed. The demolitions were legal but they were devastating for the community.
What to expect now
The cliff face has been cleared. Only the water safety house remains—the single building left standing. Getting down to the beach now means walking over construction debris—watch your footing carefully. During the day, you'll hear construction noise as the cleanup continues. The atmosphere is much emptier and quieter than it was before.
A few local vendors have returned to the beach, selling fresh coconuts and renting umbrellas. But there are no cafes or warungs for meals, so if you're planning to spend the day, bring water, snacks, and sunscreen. Cash helps too—for the 2,000 IDR parking fee and to buy from the beach vendors.
The government has pledged IDR 20 billion for redevelopment, including new infrastructure, a cultural stage, and full cleanup. Progress is happening, but slowly.
Where the beauty is
The surf hasn't changed. That left-hand barrel peeling across the reef is still perfect for intermediate to advanced surfers, especially on east winds and southwest swell between May and October. The sunset is just as magical—find a spot on the sand and watch the sky turn colors as the sun sinks into the sea.
When the tide drops, hidden paths appear between the rocks. You can walk right to Dreamland or left to Padang Padang. And there's a simplicity to Bingin now—no crowds, no noise, just beach, surf, and sky. The natural beauty that made Bingin special in the first place? That hasn't changed.
Worth the Visit?
Bingin is different now, and whether that's good or bad depends on what you're looking for. The waves still break perfectly. The sunsets are stunning. And without the crowds, there's a peacefulness here that's hard to find. You can watch the sunset without elbowing through people.
Yes, there's construction debris. Yes, access is trickier. But the ocean is still beautiful, and the emptiness has its own appeal.
