In 2016, we started building Mule Malu. We wanted to create a place where quality didn't mean pretense, where you could have comfort without the markup. We opened our doors two years later, in 2018.
We didn't cut a single tree in the process. When a tree was in the way, we moved the building. We made holes in roofs so branches could grow through. Our lobby is a former cow shelter and our spa is a traditional Joglo, both crafted from 30+ year-old teak wood—structures with history, given new purpose. Throughout the property, we used recycled ulin wood wherever we could.
We built Mule Malu with traditional thatched roofs and natural materials, but we're from Italy so we gave it our sensibility—yet we wanted you to feel like you're in Bali. Balinese architecture meets a Mediterranean touch.
We designed the rooms to be not too small and not too big—you want to spend quality time in your room when you sleep. Good mattress, blackout curtains, good pillow. Refresh at night and go out there during the day.
The garden takes up more space than it probably should—most told us we were crazy not to build more rooms. But we wanted green, not concrete. Garden, not rooms.
Our team organizes neighborhood cleanups. We support local festivals. We use solar panels, saltwater in the pool, no single-use plastic. Small things that add up.
Make time to smell the flowers... and welcome to your home away from home.
